This is the first year of boys and girls basketball using the MHSAA MPR rating system. The MPR system guarantees that the #1 and #2 seed, at the time of district draws, will be placed on opposite sides of the bracket. The remaining teams are sorted alphabetically based on a pre determined bracket assignment. This system was put into place in order to make it possible that the two best teams would meet in the district finals. MPR ratings are calculated over the regular season and are based on strength of schedule, point differential, and other factors.
Each district is divided into an even number of teams which places the PH girls varsity team in the Division 4 tournament and our PH varsity boys into the Division 3 tournament.
The girls varsity team has earned the #2 seed based on a current season record of 7-12 and a 3rd place conference record of 4-2. They will open the tournament on Wednesday, March 4 against Zion Christian at host Tri Unity at 5:30 PM. The girls varsity team beat Zion earlier in the season 34-33. They will finish their season on Friday, February 28 at home vs. Tri Unity at 5:30 PM.
The boys varsity team has complied a current season record of 12-6 and a current 1st place conference record of 7-0. The boys did not receive a #1 or #2 seed but they were still fortunate enough to receive a bye in the first round. They will open the tournament on Wednesday, March 11 against the winner of Calvin Christian and Fennville. The game will be played at Calvin Christian at 7:15 PM.
